For the film industry, a year starts like any other. There would be about 150 new releases and there would be a few major star films to look forward to. Stars and filmmakers, on their part, plan and book the cinema chains for the festive period. The entertainment industry that came to a halt in March 2020, is being resurrected in parts and many producers have been releasing their projects on OTT platforms due to COVID-19 restrictions. A few films are ready for release in 2021 and there are quite a few in various stages of production. And while the industry is taking baby steps to get on its feet, let’s take a look at these 5 most expensive films that might set a new precedent despite being hit by the pandemic.

 

SS Rajamouli’s much-anticipated lavish period drama is set to be based on the lives of two legendary freedom fighters Alluri Seetharama Raju and Komaram Bheem. It stars Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, and Olivia Morris. Brahmastra

Ranbir Kapoor Alia Bhatt Brahmastra Ranbir Kapoor Alia Bhatt BrahmastraAmitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor star in the ambitious Ayan Mukerji-directed superhero adventure, which has been billed as the first part in a trilogy. The film also stars Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy. It is being made on a rumoured budget of Rs 300-320 crore.

Pathan

While the official announcement is awaited, there is buzz that superstar Shah Rukh Khan will return on the big screen with the film, which also reportedly stars John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Dimple Kapadia and will reportedly feature a cameo by Salman Khan. It is being made on a rumoured budget of Rs 250-280 crore.

Prithviraj

Former beauty queen Manushi Chhillar will be walking into Bollywood alongside Akshay Kumar through the historical drama. Based on the life and heroism of Prithviraj Chauhan, the film is directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who helmed the television epic Chanakya and the period drama Pinjar. It is reportedly being made on a budget of Rs 220-230 crore.

KGF Chapter 2

Kannada superstar Yash will return with the sequel to KGF. The two-part fictional mob drama traces the journey of the dreaded criminal, Rocky. It will also feature Sanjay Dutt as Adheera, the antagonist of the story. It is being made on a rumoured budget of Rs 180-200 crore.
