Erigaisi recently exacted retribution in the ongoing online chess competition after losing to Carlsen in the Julius Baer Generation Cup final in September.

In the preliminary round of the Aimchess Rapid online chess competition on Sunday (October 16), 19-year-old Indian grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi upset reigning five-time World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen.
Erigaisi has defeated Carlsen for the first time in this match. Erigaisi had previously fallen to Carlsen in the September Julius Baer Generation Cup final. In the seventh round of the Aimchess Rapid online chess tournament's preliminary round, the Indian grandmaster defeated the world champion.
The Indian grandmaster has managed to take fourth place in the competition after 8 rounds. It should be noted that there are 16 participants altogether in the Aimchess Rapid competition, including 5 from India.
Arjun Erigaisi presently trails Nodirbek Abdusattorov of Uzbekistan by two points. In the Julius Baer Generation Cup online competition final, he had previously fallen short to Magnus Carlsen.
The Indian grandmaster had an Elo rating of 2559 in March 2020, according to Chess Base. He has experienced a dramatic ascent in the last 2.5 years to rank as the 21st best player in the world, though. Currently, Arjun Erigasi has an Elo rating of 2728.
A 17-year-old Indian grandmaster named Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu defeated Magnus Carlsen at the FTX Crypto Cup, the Champions Chess Tour's American championship, in Miami earlier in August.
This was Praggnanandhaa's third victory over Carlsen this year. After the scores were tied at 2-2, the Indian prodigy prevailed in the match in the blitz tiebreaker.
